What a busy month we've already had, and it's only the 3rd Sunday. This past Tuesday a few of us met for happy hour at Gingerman in Uptown. We all brought a few work buddies, and there was a Lutheran -v- non-Lutheran dart tournament and the Lutherans dominated. Woohoo! Good job YALL.
Today we had our annual Thanksgiving dinner at the home of Pastor and Jill McGuire. We had at least 15 people attend. It was great! We met many new faces and got to visit with those we hadn't seen in a while. We were sorry that some couldn't attend and hope to see them at our next event. Thanks to everyone for bringing delicious food and thanks to the McGuires for hosting.
While at the Thanksgiving dinner we discussed having an upcoming outing. There were requests for both bowling and TopGolf to celebrate the upcoming January birthdays, so we'll let the birthday people decide which they want to do.

Kick-start October
September ended with a...gurgle? Our pancake breakfast went great, and we finished in the black thanks to all the donations we received. Unfortunately, we also finished standing in a pool of water. The kitchen flooded and we had a terrific mess at the end of the breakfast. Luckily, it wasn't our fault. It just happened at an inopportune time. We got everything mopped up and washed the dishes in another sink, but we're leery of having another breakfast before the kitchen gets remodeled. Perhaps we should have a breakfast as a fundraiser for the remodel. Hmmmm...
October kicks off with a couple birthdays: Colin and Rachel. We'll head to Cibus at North Park for happy hour on Oct 6 and then to Gingerman in uptown for Rachel's birthday. We hope to go to the fair this month, and Stacy is in a play that plans to be horror-ific. Perhaps we'll catch that one evening. Don't forget, Reformation Sunday is October 25.

Busy weekend planned!
This weekend we'll be busy, busy, busy. Friday we're all meeting at 7-Salsas in Las Colinas for happy hour at 6pm. Sunday we're getting to church early for our quarterly pancake breakfast. We'll be collecting donations to help pay for TFP remodel (which we went over-budget on -- Woops!) and food for the POBLO-TX ESL emergency food pantry. Breakfast starts at 8:45 in the fellowship hall and lasts until 2nd service. We can't wait to see everyone there!

The Family Place
We love remodeling. It could be the two designers that we have in our group. It could just be our preference for strong smelling paint. (Actually, we've learned strong smelling paint is a bad thing.) Either way we love to get our hands on a remodeling project. This weekend we took on The Family Place (TFP) pre-teen room. The room started out as a deep sky blue color with folding tables and small children's school chairs. It was uninviting and drab. We started out with a nice silver paint, but we all agreed that it was not quite what a pre-teen room needed. So, along with the TFP volunteer coordinator, we picked a new bright yellow-orange color called Apple Crisp. With the dark furniture, the new color really popped. It took us the whole weekend to set up the room the way we liked it, but we were all really excited about the finished product. We gave the pre-teens a new (to them) TV and video game player. We gave them a nice new stereo that was donated from a church member. We gave them new storage and updated the storage they had with a fresh coat of paint. We filled the storage with games and art supplies purchased with a donated Target gift card. We gave them a new table and chairs from Ikea, and a rug with saucer chairs to come this week. It all looks awesome. If you didn't get to help on this project, we hope you can join us for the next one. We just need to find a new organization that needs our artistic assistance. Any suggestions?

Upcoming Events: Lunch with Vicar and The Family Place remodel
Hey YALL,
Lunch with Vicar
Hope everyone had a great 4th of July. Because nearly all of us were out of town last week, we canceled First Sunday Lunch and also missed Vicar Schuermann's welcome lunch. Therefore, this Sunday YALL is treating Vicar Schuermann and his wife to lunch. I probably won't be there because I will still be traveling back from Michigan (where I am now), so someone else will need to take the lead on this. Just choose a place to eat, pay for the meal for everyone, and submit your receipt to Barbara for reimbursement. Also, please email me the receipt amount so that I can keep track of funds.
Family Place Remodel
Saturday, August 8 we will start (and hopefully complete) our remodel of The Family Place (TFP) teen room. Shelley has taken the lead on the design portion of this. We need others to help with other pre-remodel tasks. (Remember that Shelley and Brandon are getting married in September, so their a bit busy!) Here are some tasks that need completed.
Purchases: -- I'll probably take this because I want to keep track of costs. But I could probably use some help with the shopping, so if you'd like to help, let me know.
Promotion and Donations: -- It's important that we get the word out to the congregation. TFP has a big wish list, and we'd like to collect donations from the congregation the month of July. That means we need a promotional sign with the wish list attached and a box for donations upstairs by this Sunday! I'll take care of emailing Sarah Schwartz the announcement for the Sunday bulletin.
I know there are other tasks, but I can't remember them right now. I'll add them to the list as they come up. The most important task is, of course, showing up Saturday, August 8 for the remodel. We'll be painting, adding shelves, etc. This room is a fraction of the size of the Nelson Center foyer, so we should make quick work of it.
Thanks for all your help. Let me know what part of the project you can help with.
